Automated Conveyor Systems

Vertex designs unique automation conveyor system, and integrate standard conveyors to meet your automated material handling requirements. Our conveyors provide reliable presentation, automatic operation, increased quality, and increased throughput.

When designing nesting, we are able to accurately locate parts and prevent damage to critical surfaces. CDLR/roller conveyors are usually powered, but also can be designed to gravity feed. Powered units can utilize slip sleeves that allow accumulation. Belt conveyors are often utilized to provide a large flat surface area to convey parts into and out of automated work cells.

Automated feeders
 

Vertex designs and integrates many different types of automated feeders presenting parts for assembly or secondary operations. Reliable presentation, automatic operation, quality, and speed are benefits of an automated system.

Vertex is also experienced with automated dispensing of glues and sealants, and will make your applications flow smoothly. We integrate automated bowl feeders, as well as screw, nut, and rivet feeders. Automated bowl feeders are used to present parts oriented to specific operations or to pick and place. Screw, nut, and rivet feeders are used to present parts to other automated manufacturing equipment.

Automated Gantry Systems
 

Automated gantries are easily customizable from our templates of pre-existing designs to meet your material handling automation requirements.

Vertex has developed a wide range of applications in this segment. Either rack and pinion or screw-driven axes can be powered by servo or VFD motors.

Axes can also be powered pneumatically or hydraulically. Engineered end-of-arm tooling is designed to handle single or multiple parts accurately without damaging critical surfaces.

Robotic Material Handling Integration

Vertex designs robotic systems that will interface with your most unique and demanding material handling applications. Robotic handling is flexible, robust, and easily configured to meet specific needs. We utilize robotic simulation in our integration engineering to eliminate handling interferences and to verify that cycle times can be achieved as desired.

Robotic end-of-arm-tooling (EOAT) and end effectors are designed to automatically handle single or multiple parts accurately without damage to any critical surfaces.

Automated Adhesive / Sealer Dispensing Systems

Control your costs, part quality, and production volume by automating your dispensing applications. Vertex has automated the dispensing process in assemblies that benefit from receiving exacting amounts of lubricants, adhesives, sealants or mastic. Precise automated dispensing ensures both quality and quantity control. Bead size, position, and expansion area can be fully controlled and monitored. Robots are commonly used to dispense adhesives and mastics for a variety of applications such as two-part mixing for fastening, panel stiffening and sound dampening. Sealants can be applied robotically to components that require a water-tight seal between two parts, or require a secondary curing process.

Automated Fastening Systems

Vertex has integrated a wide variety of automated fastening applications in our automation projects for the automotive industry.

The technologies we employ have included; vibratory feeder bowls, power feed tracks, magazine feeders, blow feeders and custom designed escapements to handle the most unique parts. Most of our applications require validation of the fastener install specification.

Typical automated processes for validation have included; vision, torque monitoring, LVDT measurement, "Poka-Yoke" techniques, and many others.

Automated Pressing and Forming Systems

Vertex has integrated and designed custom tooling and press frames for staking, crimping, swaging, and pressing.

This expertise allows us to be very flexible in our designs and automation methods. Other applications that have been developed for automation processes include drilling, milling, boring, and deburring.

Automated Process Monitoring Systems

Through our diversity of applications Vertex has integrated a wide variety of process monitoring technologies. Applications include Vision inspection systems for monitoring process sequences, part profiles, part variations or applications where physical measurement is not feasible. Vision camera, proximity sensors, ultrasonic sensors and laser sensors can be integrated for part detection and measurement. LVDTs are employed for highly reliable automated positional measurement. Leak testing for pressure decay and integrity can also be monitored automatically, as well as weld current, force monitoring with load cells, and many other applications.

Automated MIG
 

Welding solutions can be provided from a single fixture application to a completely automated welding system. Vertex understands the necessity of robust welding tooling designs that address the harsh MIG welding environment. We have designed and built automated integrated turntables with tip dressers, check fixtures, and robots, all resulting in more profitable welding solutions. Innovative Turntable style MIG welding systems allow multiple robots to weld while an operator loads the opposite side, reducing the machine footprint and optimizing capital utilization. Plasma Welding
 

Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) constricts the ionized gas through the copper nozzle.This constriction produces higher temperatures and velocities, creating a smaller cross-section of the weld. Plasma welding commonly uses the same non-consumable tungsten, just like in TIG welding.Plasma welding also separates the arc from the shielding gas envelope by using the body of the torch for electrode placement. Laser Welding
 

A laser welding system consists of a servo-controlled, multi-axis mechanical arm, with a laser cutting head mounted to the wrist of Robot. The nozzle head has focusing optics for the laser light and an integral height control mechanism. An assist gas delivery package distributes a gas, such as oxygen or nitrogen, to the welding head. Most systems use a laser generator that delivers the laser light to the robot cutting head through a fibre-optic cable.
